New York is Flooded!

Its been a while and I apologize. Just because you haven't seen anything in quite sometime, it doesn't mean that we aren't doing anything. In fact, it is just the opposite. For the past month I have been taking everyday off of school that I can in order to go kayaking and we have gotten on some awesome rivers, with tons of water. Some of the footage is unreal, and will be in the film I am directing, Empire, which is set to debut at the end of the year.

The Black River
Brian filming me on Big Brother. The Black was around 20,000 CFS.
Awesome shot from the GoPro of me doing a backstab on Big Brother.
Inner City is one of the best waves in the Northeast.
Knife's Was unbelievable at 36,000 CFS. We talked a lot about running it, but unfortunately no one stepped up to the plate. Mary's was a gigantic hole that led directly into a wall from an old dam.
Paul and Jim looking at the giant curler that feeds into Mary's.

The Oswegatchie River
Tony and I on the entrance to Rainbow Falls.
Ciaran running Rainbow Falls. There is a great section of river above this drop, but since the road was closed it would have added on a 5 mile hike.
Tony Gianfagna styling Sluice Falls on Section 4 of the Oswegatchie. This is one of my favorite rapids in the Adirondacks.
When professional author Phil LaMarche isn't writing, he enjoys quiet bubble baths in the solitude of the Adirondack Mountains.

The Grass River
My view as I drop into Large Marge.
It was cold and rainy when Phil, Mike and myself put on the Grass. I had to hold a t-shirt over the camera to keep it dry.
Me giving the thumbs up after a high water run on Large Marge.
Tony got messed up in the slot and flipped at the top of Marge, but made it left with a sick line.
Tony on Twin Falls. This rapid is way softer at high water. Oh yeah, and it is about 10 times as fast.
Paul covered in the spray as he comes over the second big ledge of Twin Falls
Mike on Adrenaline Falls.
My best line on Marge in the past two weeks. My Magnum is a wreck after abusing it for 2 years, so I ended up in Tony's Burn. I was pleased with the results.

Stay tuned. The footage is sick.

Empire Promo

The Empire Project is a concept that I recently came up with when I had some time in between projects. I wanted to go bigger than I have before. I make a lot of short videos and put them on the web for others to enjoy, but its always been retrospective. I always capture what happens and try to make something from it. I changed my tactics and have come up with a goal to make a film featuring the finest whitewater of New York, the Empire State. I want to make something that strays away from your typical "kayaking porn". I realized that this is impossible to do alone, so stay tuned for introductions as well as blog posts and trailers along the way.

Black Fest 2010

Black Fest is something that I look forward to every year. I will go right out and say that there is absolutely no summer kayaking festival that can match this event. Good playspots, awesome river, waterfalls, fantastic music, boatercross, floateo, and more. If you have never been, well, I feel sorry for you.

On Friday night, Tom Vickery and Brett Finlayson, claimed a rafting first descent on Great Falls in downtown Watertown.Carly and I took the Topo Duo down for her first time in Poop Chute.
Little does he know, Mike LaFlair (yellow magnum) is about to be landed on by Phil LaMarche and Al Baker (blue Topo Duo).
These boys know how to win a floateo. The pool bus was not only a big hit in the floateo, but it made its way into the Gramps and Tramps party.Start Making Sense (Talking Heads tribute band) put on an amazing show, as always.
Big shoutouts to Bagel, Duggan, and everyone else at Hudson River Rafting. I have yet to find a place that is as hospitable as these guys. Also, big thanks to Kenny for letting me steal all of his wonderful pictures.

Beaver Weekend 2009

The Beaver River marks the beginning of fall creeking for the north east and is one of the best times of the year. This weekend was awesome we started off at hole brothers, then headed to Taylorville, Moshier, and Eagle. The put in slide for Moshier was run by 4 people, including myself, and Kevin ran the whole thing from the top. I am pretty sure that is the first time it has been run clean all the way.
Club Venture was a great vehicle that has taken us to many destinations across the US and Canada. She will be missed by all.

The great Club Venture has been replaced by Club Express, bigger, better, holds more kayaks, and more importantly it has a 1 ton frame.

Glen travels in style with the limited edition FJ Cruiser.

Black Fest 2009

Black Fest was a blast. People came from all over the east coast and Canada to witness such a spectacular river. The Black has a great atmosphere, great people, and great boating. Uncle Jim, Mike The Flair, and myself, completed a run on Saturday that goes down in Black river history complete with swims, carnage (not us) and Jim trying to be helpful. He succeeded in slipping and falling while chasing a boat, which resulted in 5 stitches. He had a tetnis shot about 3 weeks prior to this incident, so he had that going for him. He still had the heart to race and placed 8th. Mikey secured a solid 6th place after a very fair start. I had the lead for a moment, and lost it, and then took second.
As always the Black Fest party was a success.

Rainbow Falls

We were planning on hitting the Grasse in July, but instead we were lucky enough to get on Section III of the Oswegatchie! Mike and I fired up the big one. Nothing like stouts in 80 degree weather.
